Dual Extender Install
Dual-Install Methodologies
Tandem Loop Extender installation is a special application that can increase the range of high-speed internet services an additional mile over a single Loop Extender installation. Field reports indicate that on 24 AWG wire minimum service levels can be achieved as far as 40,000 ft. depending on line conditions.
Pre-Planning
The first Extender (closest to the CO) and second Extender (closest to the CPE) must comply with the requirements stated in the Loop Extenders user manual. This means:
- The first Extender must be installed at least 344 Ohms(6.6K ft.) from the CO, but no further than 1032 Ohms(19.7K ft.)
- The second Extender must be installed at least 86 Ohms (1.6K ft.) from the CPE, but no further than 929 Ohms(17.7K ft.)
Method 1: Line Attenuation | Method 2: Distance | |
---|---|---|
Downstream Attenuation for L1+L2 | L1+L2 | |
46~70(dBm) | 24AWG | 26AWG |
15.7 ~ 23.0 Kft | 11.5 ~ 16.4Kft |
Method 1 (Preferred)
Method 1 gives the best results for this application and should be used whenever possible. Use the following steps to determine the optimal placing of the Loop Extenders.
- Pick a suitable install location for the Express Powered Loop Extender, be sure to follow the figures described above and in the user manual.
- Install and test the first Loop Extender. Remember that you must test sync at least 86 Ohms or roughly 1,600 Ft. from the Extender.
- Pick a desired location for the second Loop Extender, while adhering to the figures described above and in the user manual.
- Measure Attenuation at the second installation location and determine if it falls between 46~70dBm. If it does procede to the next step, if not adjust the installation location accordingly.
- Test sync at the CPE. If you cannot obtain sync, follow our troubleshooting guide located here.
Method 2
Method 2 is a simpler install method because it does not require field measurements during installation. Use the following steps to determine the optimal placing of the Loop Extenders:
- Pick a suitable installation location for the Express Powered Loop Extender, be sure to adhere to the figures described above and in the user manual.
- Pick a suitable installation location for the Line Powered Loop Extender while also adhering to the installation figures above.
- Add the sum of L1+L2 to determine if the placement range you have chosen for the second Loop Extender is viable, if it is then move to the next step.
- Proceed with field installation of both Extenders. During isntallation verify both units show a solid green LED to indicate power and DSL tones.
- Test sync at the CPE. If you cannot obtain sync, follow our troubleshooting guide location here.
